“[Sacred music] cannot be sung well without prayer,
neither can we pray well without singing well too.”
~ Dom Joseph Gajard, OSB
Meet Chris Jasper
I have been singing in liturgical choirs and Gregorian scholae since 1997. I have studied Gregorian Chant at the Abbey of Solesmes in 2010 and at Le Centre d'Etudes Supérieures de la Renaissance in Tours in 2013, both times under the direction of the late Dom Daniel Saulnier. In 2014, I became a postulant at the Benedictine Abbey of Norcia before discerning out, and I even studied to become an actor at one time, graduating from the NYFA in Hollywood, CA in 2008 before shifting gears to pursue a career in sacred music instead. In 2021, I established the online Gregorian Chant Academy and in 2023, I merged the Academy with Floriani Sacred Music - a professional, all male ensemble - and I became its 5th member.
After suffering and recovering from vocal nodes in 2024 due to a series of throat maladies, I began searching for a singing teacher to help me rehabilitate my singing voice. I initially studied under master teachers Roberto delli Carri and Jeffrey Skousen of the IVA, but I still wanted a teacher who understood more intimately the choral music I sing so much. After months of searching online I finally discovered Dr Gillyanne Kayes, her husband Jeremy Fisher, and their teacher training program Vocal Process LTD. They have been teaching singers (and teachers) for over 30 years.
Both Dr Kayes and Mr Fisher are constantly keeping up to date with the latest advances in voice science and - as would be expected from anyone in the UK - have extensive experience both singing and training singers in choral music as well. In fact, Dr Kayes was one of the original members of the ensemble Gothic Voices when it first started. After having a lesson with Dr Kayes and comparing it with all other lessons I’ve ever had, I would describe it as working with a surgeon vs a mechanic! So, in January 2025, I made the decision to join the Vocal Process 2-year Accreditation Program to begin my journey on becoming a certified singing teacher myself.
If you are interested in developing your voice with a focus in choral music or Gregorian Chant, you’ve come to the right place! Not only do I offer lessons in the technical development of your voice, but I can also offer you guidance on interpretation of Gregorian Chant as well.
